The extension building of the retirement home in Althaldensleben is quietly welcoming towards visitors; first impressions are conveyed by wickerwork chairs in the foyer and the early blooms of spring. Human-beings like to define their own lives as individuals, but simultaneously search for a sense of community and assistance when in need. The spatial concept allows people to enjoy these basic requirements in a calming, natural way. The colour design of the different storeys in orange, yellow and green continues in the textile furniture coverings and curtains. In this way, residents’ orientation within the home is made easier. Large panes of glass in the communal areas create interplay of light between the building, forecourt and garden. The atmosphere of the residence is sympathetic and open. While feeling quite secure, residents, carers and guests can also enjoy exciting spatial impressions in a house with a future.
