The contrast between the massive brick facades and tiled roofs with the large-scale glazing and glass roof dormers is indeed remarkable. The house’s shape with its gables and elongated saddle roofs, on the other hand, seem familiar.

The character has changed unmistakably with the completion of the second construction phase of the Bremen Evangelical Church’s Meedland leisure and conference venue on the island of Langeoog. The house was consecrated under the name Rebekka with a special inauguration ceremony. Secretary and leading theologian of the Bremen Evangelical Church, Pastor Renke Brahms explained this choice of naming: The name, originally a working title of the architectural competition, was selected by the parish council. The interplay of architecture and interior design conveys the ideas of value and security. The project was honoured with the German Design Award 2018.
